Grand Opening October 30, 2024

An 'a-maize-ing' grand opening in Mitchell, SD!

What started as a small celebration with partners turned into a large gathering of community support when My Place celebrated their grand opening of My Place Hotel-Mitchell, SD last week.

The chilly, October weather forced guests indoors for most of the celebration, which worked perfectly for those wanting to tour the brand new hotel, check out the amenities, or snack on a delicious lunch from DWU Fresh Eats. Not only were members from the My Place Corporate team on hand to answer questions, but the hotel staff was ready and eager to engage with guests and show off the hard work they've done in the short time since the hotel opened in July.

The four-story, 63-key hotel is perfectly located just south of Interstate-90 and directly to the east of Cabela's, a hunting and fishing megastore. Travelers flock to the small South Dakota town every year, and this hotel puts guests in the middle of it all. While in Mitchell, tourists also take in the World's Only Corn Palace, the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village, and plenty of other indoor and outdoor activities.

Jordan Hanson, Mitchell mayor

"The event here today in Mitchell went absolutely awesome. There was a huge community turnout, lots of people, lots of support. It's just a testament to how bad we need something like this in our community."

  • 24-hour grab-and-go My Store

  • NEW! Two single-stall garages for guests to rent
  • Hot, fresh cookies available in the lobby in addition to 24-hour complimentary coffee

During the grand opening celebration, several speakers welcomed My Place to the "Palace City" community. Shelly Tilberg, Cortrust Bank Branch Manager and Chamber of Commerce representative, kicked off the programing with a warm welcome, expressing the excitement she's heard since My Place's announcement to come to town.

Mitchell's mayor, Jordan Hanson, echoed the sentiment, noting how impressed he was with the community involvement to get the hotel up and running. Developer Bill Folkerts, a managing member of Mitchell Holdings, LLC; Mark Puetz of the Puetz Design Build team; and Matt Campbell, COO of My Place Hotels of America, also expressed their gratitude for the support and successes they experienced.

The property was designed by Puetz Design Build, developed by Mitchell Holdings, LLC, and is managed by Venert's Hotel Management.
